Bringer of Bad News.

It seems like I am the one to find things wrong in Special Collections. First it was the book ends sticking to the WOODEN shelves. . .yeah that was fun to pull off. Today while moving some of our manuscript collections I found water damage on some of the boxes. . .do I need to say water and paper doesn't mix? Thankfullywe haven't, and hopefully we won't discover any damage to anything HOUSED in the boxes. The constant struggle of protection for a collection is kind of unnerving. Last week we thought we heard water dripping in the back room. . .nothing came of it. We are buying water detectors that run on 9volt batteries and go off for 72 hours or until taken care of. Maybe someday the University will get with the program and get us a better place to house the books and collections we have here. . .You know like NEVER!! The funniest thing is that our department probably has the most direct contact with powerful people who have LOTS and Lots of moolah, next to development and the president's office. Do you think that sounds important? I wish we were considered more important than we are treated, but if wished were fishes we'd all have a fry. MMM yum fish. . .
